Connect Shopify (step by step)
Make your own small Shopify app in 5 minutes and connect it to Mungo.
Mungo connects to your store through your own private Shopify app. It's free, only works for your store, and you can give it any name (for example "Mungo"). You need to be the store owner (or a staff member with app development permission). It takes about 5 minutes.
Step 1: Open the Dev Dashboard
- Log in to your Shopify admin.
- Go to Settings → Apps → Develop apps.
- Click Build apps in Dev Dashboard. A new tab opens: the Shopify Dev Dashboard.
Step 2: Create the app
- Click Create app.
- Give it a name, for example Mungo, and click Create.
Step 3: Choose what Mungo may do
- Open the Versions tab and click Create version.
- Leave App URL as it is (the default is fine).
- Under Scopes, add: read_products, write_products, read_orders, read_customers, read_fulfillments, read_inventory. Tip: type each name in the search box and tick it.
- Click Release.
Why these? Products are for the Product Lister. Orders, customers and fulfillments are for the support inbox, Price Guard and Profit Dashboard later, so you don't have to do this twice.
Step 4: Install the app on your store
- Go back to the app's overview page.
- Click Install app (in the Installs card), choose your store and click Install.
Step 5: Copy the keys into Mungo
- In the Dev Dashboard, open your app's Settings.
- Copy the Client ID and the Client secret (click the eye or copy icon).
- In Mungo, go to Connections → Shopify → Connect.
- Paste your store address (like your-store.myshopify.com), the Client ID and the Client secret, and click Connect.
Mungo checks the keys right away. When you see Connected, you're done.
Something not working?
- "Mungo couldn't log in with these keys": check that you copied the whole Client ID and secret, and that the app is installed on your store (step 4).
- "Some permissions are missing": add the missing scopes in a new version (step 3), click Release, then approve the new permissions in your Shopify admin under Settings → Apps.
- "This store is already connected to another Mungo account": one Shopify store can be connected to one Mungo account at a time.
- Keep the Client secret private, like a password. Mungo stores it encrypted.
